A shout-out to Melvynna Tambunan for her performances this past week at the Pan Asian BJJ/Grappling Championships in Manila, PH. Taking home 4-gold medals for both her weight + absolute in the gi and no-gi. And to top it all off, she was voted MOST TECHNICAL FIGHTER of the event, a first for female competitor here in Southeast Asia. Big congratulations to her and her team. -Luke

I know this is a little late coming but with all the updates it unfortunately got pushed back. After strong performances at Copa De Hong Kong 2, we have 3 new blue-belts. Congratulations to Demitri Telfair & Francois Lamothe-Charlebois for their promotion from Andy Wang. And for those that attended the Telles/Galvao seminar, Danny Hathiramani was awarded his blue-belt from Telles himself. I know the body of blue-belts is growing compared to when I first moved to Bangkok 3 years ago, almost all white-belts. Keep it up! -Luke

Just wanted to give a shout out to some recent promotions.

First, Vince Choo at KDT who received his purple from John Will (Machado). And following their strong performances this weekend in HK, both Vaughn Anderson and Warren Wang were given their purple from Andy Wang. A big congratulations to all three guys and to the rest of us, keep training! -Luke

I wake up this morning to receive great news from one of my teammates.

Mark 'Vesuvius' Simmerman wins gold for his weight division at the Pan Ams!!!! We all knew that Mark had it in him and he definitely paid his dues the months prior. I'm sure I speak for the rest of us in expressing how proud and happy we are for Mark. Congratulations!!!

I got some congratulatory news to share with everyone.

Firstly, Nicolai 'The Geeza' Holt for winning both his division + the absolute at the recent Europeans in Portugal. Next we have Hiro Kitamura from Team Fabricio taking 2nd place in his division. Both of these fine competitors representing the SEA BJJ/grappling scene.

Another bit of news is that both Nicolai and Hiro are the very first in SEA to be registered referees under CBJJ, having completed a course while in Portugal. This is very positive news for the region as this can only benefit the growth of the sport and quality of reffing in our competitions.

These guys deserve our congratulations for not just their win but commitment to the sport.

I just got word that Synergy Jiu-Jitsu's own Niko Han has recently been promoted to black-belt by Marc Laimon (Cobra Kai). A big congratulations to Niko as I'm sure it's been quite a journey so far. Although it's not BJJ related, one of our own here in Bangkok has just recently fought in her first two Muay Thai fights, winning both by TKO and all within one week's time. Congratulations Jem! We first met Jem through BJJ training but started Muay Thai about 5 months ago.

Andy Mobbs and Bruno Hernandez were promoted to the rank of Blue Belt !

Andy dominated BJJ tournaments in Taipei ( 4x gold) and Bangkok (2x gold). Bruno won gold in the weight division at the 3rd SEA Grappling Games this past week. Congratualtions on the well deserved blue belts !

I wanted to take a moment to announce some recent promotions.

Fransino Tirta just received his purple-belt from Niko Han (Synergy Jiu-Jitsu) this past September 30, 2007. It's also worth noting that Fransino recently returned from China having fought in the Art of War 8 against Dai Shuang Hai.

















And Kei Kita was awarded his purple belt at the recent tournament in Taipei.
