NEW PURPLE AT 50 YEARS OF AGE!!!

At the age of 50, Roger Chow was presented his purple belt by Professor Silvio Braga on Saturday 17 October 2009.

Once a Hong Kong Muaythai Champion, he started BJJ training at the age of 42, way over his athletic prime, he continued to dedicate his spare time in studying this revolutionary style of Martial Art. Roger was promoted by Thomas Fan (HKBJJ) to blue belt in 2005, he was probably one of the best blue belt around in Hong Kong at the time.

His enthusiasm on the mat to learn, to train and to help up-and-coming white belts truly inspired many of us here. He has set a good example for those what wanted to start BJJ, but they always think that they were too late……………. Well, you would never know unless one day you pick up a Gi and give it a shot.

As my mentor and my friend “Aooha! Roger!”

As another old guy, I am impressed and happy to see "one of my kind" get the coveted purple belt. At the same time I have to say it wouldn't happen if the sport weren't so welcoming and inclusive of players of all ages. The only "age-ism" I've ever seen is the occasional reluctance of some aggro "young guns" to tap to geezers & gals (hey it's your pain, our gain!). So congrats to Roger, but thanks to all the rest of you....

Roger is one of the most humble and hard working guys I've met within martial arts. A former Champion fighter in Muay thai, he's ability and dedication to learn from stratch and never give up is truely inspirational to everyone who are fortunate to have trained with him. I remember on couple occasions there were accidental headbutts which left him having to get stitches, and he would be off to A & E with a big smile on his face and say - 'its nothing, be back soon!'

Truely a great guy - congratulations Roger!
